FIRST Robotics Competition - Team 2980

FIRST Robotics Competition teams consist of high school students, grades 9 through 12, who design, fabricate, build, and program industrial-sized robots to compete in a special-designed game against like-minded competitors. The robots must complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing items in specific locations, manipulating field objects, climbing onto platforms, and hanging on bars. FRC games are released the first Saturday in January, and teams embark on their “build season” until the first competitions in March. Teams are awarded at competitions for their engineering and robot play as well as their impact in promoting STEM throughout their community.

Active since 2007, Team 2980 is Oak Harbor High School's FIRST Robotics Competition team. The team's  high school members design, build, and program a fully-functional robot every winter to perform in competitions held in March and April each year. During their "off season", members can be found mentoring robotics teams at lower levels, participating in educational and outreach events throughout the area, and working on special projects in our community. Because of their outstanding work both with their robots and in our community, Team 2980 was awarded the prestigious Chairman's Award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024 (rebranded as the Impact Award), and the team earned trips to the World Championships in 2014, 2016, and 2018.
