Our Teams
The Club promotes science, technology, engineering, and math in the Whidbey Island area through its support of student robotics teams affiliated with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST inspires young people to be leaders in science and technology by engaging students in exciting, mentor-based research and robotics programs. FIRST programs increase student interest in STEM by providing hands-on learning, experience working as a team on real-life problems, exposure to careers and adult mentors, emphasis on FIRST Core Values, and a culminating celebration where students can showcase what they created and learned. Worldwide, FIRST engages more than 650,000 students on more than 70,000 robotics teams across five age groups.
The Club provides support and organization to FIRST Robotics teams across all age levels in the Oak Harbor School District and throughout the Whidbey Island area. In the 2023-24 season, we supported one FRC team, three FTC teams, and eight FLL Challenge teams in Oak Harbor. We hosted a pre-competition FLL Challenge event for teams from Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Anacortes, and Port Townsend. And, for the first time, we hosted two FTC league-level competitions, welcoming 17 teams from Anacortes, Arlington, Everett, Mt. Vernon, Oak Harbor, Port Townsend, and Snohomish. All told and including our two weekend-long Lego Camps, we provided opportunities for over 250 students to get hands-on robotics experience.
